Beauty in all its forms
Italian head and Carioca heart. ‘Beauty in all its forms’ is a professional training program for young people between the ages of 18 and 25 with Down Syndrome, to help them find work as hairstylist assistants. It was launched in Brazil in 2013, thanks to the partnership between the NGO, Meta Social Institute, and Alfaparf. It was then brought to Italy where, in conjunction with AIPD – the Italian Association of People with Down Syndrome – in Bergamo, the training courses began. The aim of the project is to give young people with Down Syndrome the chance to develop new professional skills, boosting their personal and social independence and helping them enter the world of work.
The program consists of a training course that gives the participants the skills they will need to become future hairstylist assistants and that uses an innovative and effective educational method. At the end of the course, after sitting an exam to assess what they have learnt, successful candidates are ready to cope with all aspects of their profession, putting into practice everything they have learnt on the course. The next stage of the course is an internship where, after the theoretical learning module, the students get hands-on experience in partner salons, giving them the opportunity to get first-hand experience of work in a salon and interact with other people.
Strength and a smile
La Forza e il Sorriso Onlus (Strength and a Smile) organizes beauty workshops for women undergoing cancer treatment at hospitals and voluntary organizations throughout Italy. It is the only collective socially responsible project in the cosmetic sector in Italy and enjoys the support of Cosmetica Italia – the Italian association of cosmetic companies.
The aim of the project is to offer information, ideas and practical advice on how to handle the secondary effects of the therapy. The workshops are held for women who, while undergoing oncological treatment, still want to feel beautiful, and they help restore their wellbeing and self-confidence. The Alfaparf Group contributes by donating money and its cosmetic products to support the activities which are held in the centers which are part of the project.
